Guide for teachers: Selling nude photos

This is a guide for those working in schools. It contains information on how to discuss with children and young people the topic of selling nude photos online. It is common for children and young people to be offered money to sell nude photos. Those asking for photos are often another child or young person. Selling nude photos is legal but it is illegal to offer children payment for nude photos. The person offering children money for nude photos may be guilty of attempted exploitation of a child for sexual posing (ch. 6, sec. 8 and 15, the Swedish Criminal Code) or attempted child pornography offence (ch. 16, sec. 10a and 17, the Swedish Criminal Code).

Those working with children and young people have an important responsibility to inform them about their rights, consent and grey zones – both to prevent children from being victims of a crime and to prevent them from committing a crime against others. It is important for you as an adult to show that you can understand the reality that young people live in. This can help to create a bridge of trust between generations.

This guide for teachers contains information as well as exercises that are suitable for children at the secondary and upper secondary levels.

If you have any questions about the guide, you are welcome to send an email to info@ecpat.se
